Understanding the Niyamas:
According to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, an ancient philosophical scripture that dates back at least 2000 years, the physical practice of yoga (asanas) constitutes only one-eighth of the entire 8 Limbs of Yoga. In this 2-Part Series, Yoga Instructor, Catie Ryan, and certified Yoga Therapist, Elaine Oyang, will discuss the first two facets of the 8 Limbs: Yamas and Niyamas. These two facets describe restraints and observances one should practice introspectively and towards others in order to attain the ultimate goal of Yoga: unity and freedom from our mind-fluctuations. The workshop will include philosophical discussions, as well as asana practices to weave these concepts into practical, daily tools.
